Remarks | This Mustang was originally built as CA-18 in March 1951 for Royal Australian Air Force with registration A68-192. Owned by civilians in Australia, Philippines and Hong Kong, in 1997 was purchased by Robert W. Davies at Duxford. In 2001 was painted into wonderful marking of P-51D-20NA, serial 44-72218 "Big Beautiful Doll" piloted on wars end by commander of the 78th Fighter Group Lt.Col. John D. Landers, ace with 14,5 victories. On April 16, 1945 during a mission over Prague airfields, he destroyed 9 Luftwaffe aircraft on the ground. The victory markings were covered with tape only for ILA 2008 show. |
