RemarksVery late afternoon during an exercise and my first sighting of one of the ex USN F-4Js in RAF service with 74 Squadron. These very quickly gained black fins, setting a trend for a colourful era of Phantoms in the UK but pictures are rarer without it!! Also as one of the last to be delivered the piant was barley grey! This was former 155894.

RemarksThis was a former British United Airways 1-11 used by the RAE Bedford. It was purchased by the MOD in 1971, eventually becoming part of the QinetiQ fleet of trials aircraft. It was the first aircraft with a coloured 'glass' flight deck and was instrumental in the development of blind landing techniques.
